OLYMPICS

The International Olympic Committee was founded by Baron Pierre de Coubertin  and Demetrios Vikelas in 1894. The international sporting events known as Olympics or the modern Olympics games features both summer and winter sports competitions. It includes participation of thousands of athletes from around the world in different variety of competitions. Olympics are held alternately between summer and winter Olympics, after every four years. Olympics is considered to be the most famous and successful sport event which includes participation from approximate around 206 nations. The winter Olympics consist of winter sports practiced in snow and ice.

The summer Olympics officially the Games of the XXX11 Olympiad, comprising of multiple sports events is an upcoming International Sports event. It is also known for its host city Tokyo, TOKYO 2020.  It was originally scheduled to be held from 24 July to 9 August 2020 but due to covid 19 Summer Olympics 2020 were postponed to 2021. The summer Olympic is scheduled to held from 23rd July to 8th August 2021 with a motto of “United by Emotion”. Despite being rescheduled to 2021, Summer Olympics retains its name as TOKYO 2020 for branding and marketing purposes. The Summer Olympics is being hosted by the city Tokyo, of Japan. A total of 206 nations will be a part of Tokyo, 2020.  Every Olympic game has an opening and closing ceremony for the event. The opening ceremony for Tokyo 2020 will take place on Friday at 8:00pm JST (Japan Standard Time). The Summer Olympics focuses on more female participation also.

Tokyo Olympics 2020 will have 206 (expected) countries participating and an expected number of 11,091 athletes in the event. The event will consist of 33 sports and a total of 339 events including all sports. Also, the major change in Tokyo,2021 is the inclusion of five new sports which are baseball, karate, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing.  These sports are added keeping Olympic still relevant to all generation of sports fan. Certain games involved in Summer Olympic are Artistic Swimming, Badminton, Baseball, Boxing, Golf, Judo, Karate and the list goes on

                                          

FEW SPORT EVENTS AT OLYMPIC 2020.

·   DIVING:  Diving is one of the four aquatic sports. The diving competition will have a total of 8 events in Summer Olympics 2021. It will have both versions of male and female.

·  BASEBALL:  Since after Olympics 2008, Baseball will now be featured in Tokyo,2020. It will be participated by six national teams which are Israel, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, The Dominican Republic, and The United States.

·    CANOEING: The activity involves paddling a canoe with a single-bladed paddle.  Canoeing will involve two disciplines in the events canoe slalom and canoe sprint. It will total consist of 16 events.

·   CYCLING: Cycling has been a part of the Summer Olympics since the very first Olympics. It is one of the most popular sport. It features five track events as BMX freestyle, BMX racing, Mountain biking, Road cycling, and Track cycling.  It will have a total of 22 a contest involving all the track events. It is gradually involving women’s competitions as well.

·   GYMNASTICS: Gymnastics is a physical exercise involving strength, flexibility, endurance, and agility. It will be held in three categories as trampolining, artistic gymnastics, and rhythmic gymnastics having a total of 18 contests.

·    KARATE: Karate is one of the debut sports at the Olympics 2021. The competition will feature a total of eight events. Two of the event disciplines will be featured by Kumite which is a sparing discipline and the rest 6 disciplines will be solo form discipline, Kata.

·    SKATEBOARDING: Skateboarding is one of the five games added in Summer Olympics 2021. It will consist of a total of 8 events with 80 competitors.  Skateboarding will have 4 medal events two each of men and women.

·    VOLLEYBALL:  Volleyball includes both volleyball and beach volleyball. It has a total of 4 events involving the participation of 24 volleyball teams and 48 beach volleyball teams.

·   WRESTLING: Wrestling consists of 18 events involving two disciplines, Greco-Roman and freestyle. These disciplines are further divided on the basis of weight category. The participation of women will only be in freestyle weightlifting while men will participate in both. Except Paris 1900, Wrestling has been a part of every Olympic.

·    TRIATHLON: It is an endurance race involving swimming, cycling, and running for various distances.  It will have a total of 3 events with 110 competitors.

·  SHOOTING: Shooting involves 15 events in total with the participation of 360 competitors, 180 each man and women.

FEW ATHLETES QUALIFIED FOR OLYMPICS 2021 ( Tokyo 2020 )

 MariyaLasitskene, Russia, Track and Field:- She is a Russian athlete who is an expert in the High Jump. She has won a gold medal three times at the world championships.

Lois Toulson, Great Britain, Diving:- She is a 10-meter platform specialist and she will make her individual 10-meter debut in Tokyo.


Michael Andrew, United States, Swimming:- He is an American Swimmer and 100-meter individual medley, World Champion 2016.

Sky Brown, Great Britain, Skateboarding:- She is an Anglo- Japanese skateboarder competitor for Great Britain. She is the youngest professional skateboarder in the world and has been selected to represent Great Britain at  Summer Olympics 2020.

Rohan Dennis, Australia, Road cycling:- He is a professional Australian road racing cyclist.  He has won UCI men’s individual time trial world championships in 2018 and 2019.

Stephanie Gilmore, Australia, Surfing:- She is an Australian professional Surfer. Stephanie is a seven-time world champion at the Women’s WSL World tour.


FAMOUS INDIAN ATHLETES AT OLYMPICS 2021 ( Tokyo 2020)

 Neeraj Chopra, India, Track: He is an Indian Track and Field Athlete and JCO in Indian Army.  He has won gold medals in the Asian Games 2018 and 2018 Commonwealth Games. He has also held an Indian record of 88.07m for the event.


 P.V.Sindhu, India, BadmintonShe is an Inidan professional Badminton player. She has won several medals at different level tournaments. She was the first Indian woman to win a silver medal in Olympics. P.V.Sindhu is also the first Indian to become a Badminton World Champion



Mary Kom, India, Boxing: Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom known as MARY KOM all over the world is a politician, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. She is an amateur Indian boxer and the only female to win six times, Amateur World Boxing Championhip. The achievements of Mary Kom are neverending. She is the first Indian female to win a gold medal at Commonwealth Game 2018. She has won the the Padma Vibhushan(2020), Padma Shri(2006) and Padma Bhushan(2013).


 Pranati Nayak, India, GymnasticsShe is the only second Indian female gymnast to qualify for the Olympics.  She is an Indian Artistic Gymnast and has earned a bronze at Asian Artistics Gymnastics Championships 2019.




Sania Mirza, India, Tenni:-   She is an Indian Professional tennis player. She is ranked India’s No.1 player by the Women’s Tennis Association. Sania has won six Grand Slam titles in her career.

  Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, India, Weightlifting:- Known as Mirabai Chanu is an Indian weightlifter. She has won many medals at Common wealth games and also won the World Championships. She has been awarded the Padma Shri and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna by The Government of India.



Sajan Prakash, India, Swimmer:- He is an Indian Swimmer who specializes in medley events, freestyle, and butterflies. He holds multiple records and holds 11 Indian National Swimming Records. 

Manu Bhaker, India, Shooting:- She plays Air-gun shooting and has represented India at ISSF World Cup 2018.  She has won the gold medal at the age of 16 in Commonwealth Games 2018 and the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at ISSF World Cup.
