Impact of health care innovation on mankind

Health care is the improvement of health by proper treatment and diagnosis of disease or an injury and other physical and mental ailments. In other words, health care can be defined as the efforts made by doctors for improving the physical and mental well–being of humans. The sole purpose of health care is to improve the quality of life by improving health.

Medical science has divided health care into four different levels – primary care, secondary care, tertiary care, and quaternary care.

1.       Primary care- Primary care refers to a treatment when you visit a doctor for any new symptom of bacterial or viral disease or for any kind of fracture, rashes, or muscle problem.

2.       Secondary care- Secondary care comes into the picture when you are referred to a medical practitioner who is a specialist in the field for which your body is showing symptoms. This referral is given by the doctor who was taking your primary care.

3.       Tertiary care When a person is hospitalized and a higher level of care is taken in the hospital by the specialized doctors and nurses, is known as tertiary care. Various types of surgeries like bypass surgery, plastic surgery, and other types of serious ailments are included in tertiary care.

4.       Quaternary care- Quaternary care is the extension of tertiary care. Not all hospitals offer quaternary care because it is highly specific.

Because of technological developments in health care have changed from anesthetics and antibiotics to magnetic resonance imaging scanners (MRI) and radiotherapy. These innovations in the health care sector are a boon for the lives of people as well as medical practitioners. Innovations in lab testing techniques help to save the lives of many people as reports are available within few hours so the diagnosis can be started immediately without wasting the time of 2-3 days only for the reports. Surgery simulation has reduced the risk to human lives as now surgeries do not experiment on real patients which used to worsen the situations or even caused deaths. Innovations in the treatment of cancer and diabetes help save the lives of many people as now they can be recognized at the early stages and proper treatment can be given accordingly.

Many devices such as blood glucose meter for checking diabetes, blood pressure monitor for checking your blood pressure, pulse oximeter to keep a check at an oxygen level of your body and various others are invented which can be used by the people on their own at their houses to keep a regular check at their health and it has reduced the number of visits to the doctor which helps to save the money as well as the time of the person as we can purchase them once and use them for a long time. By keeping a regular check on health a patient can adopt all the precautionary measures which save him from severe problems also.
